About the exhibition

EVERHOLLOW presents fifteen oversized photographic works by Kristoffer Kirketerp. Through tight composition, he creates a universe of emptiness where the psychological, physical, and existential blend together. The exhibition explores both the outer and inner state of emptiness — and what emerges in its absence.

About the artist

On a more personal level, the creation of these “empty” photographs is rooted in Kristoffer’s experiences living with ADHD.

"People usually associate someone like me with being hyperactive, hyper-assertive, and for some — hyper-annoying. But I don’t think many people know the not-so-hyperactive side of an ADHD diagnosis — the isolation, the dissociation, the emptiness, and so on. These works are the closest I’ve come to expressing that feeling, and looking back, that’s why I started photographing empty places and ugly things that, to me, were beautiful.

Whether I’m trying to be funny, playful, dealing with climate anxiety, or grieving, I always know what I see. Out of my two eyes.

But with EVERHOLLOW, I’m more interested in the emptiness itself than in telling a story about myself or asserting something specific. A void isn’t a void if you fill it, so that conversation should instead take place between the images and the people standing in front of them. I love the idea that that conversation might continue in someone’s home. Without me being there.”

About VESS

The artist collective VESS entered the Danish art scene in 2011. At the time, the mission was to act as a catalyst for untested talent in art and culture — as an alternative to the established art world. Up until 2019, when VESS decided to pause the project, the small gallery had curated well over 100 exhibitions, won AOK's “Best Art Experience” twice in a row (2015 and 2016), and repeatedly attracted attention from the cultural media.

As nomads, the VESS members are currently aiming to bring EVERHOLLOW to Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Aalborg, and Oslo.
